I want to give to this AMAZING organization!? But I want to share the WHY.??On August 8th I received a call from my doctor confirming what I suspected, I had an abnormal Mammogram.? The sense of urgency in her voice to get into a specialist was quite frightening.? I then met with doctors on Aug 24th who proceeded to schedule what seemed like every test in their arsenal.? By the end of the month it was confirmed, I had Stage IIIa TNBC.? During this crazy time of uncertainty, a friend loaned me a book to read, ?A Good Fight? by Donna Hicken.? I read it for knowledge and perspective and I gained comradery.? By the Grace of GOD and Donna sharing her story, I have not once felt alone. So, as I?m sure you all know the routines all too well, September has been a whirlwind of appointments and firsts. I began My treatment at the Mayo Clinic last week?so far so good.

?In my heart I believe, God new this was coming and has been laying the ground work in our lives so that we will be OK.? Let me explain, In February my husbands dream of owning his own restaurant came to fruition.? It was a tough journey to get there but we it did.? Shortly thereafter, this allowed for me to leave my job of 15 years so that I could help as needed and be more available to/with our 2 children (7 & 9 yrs) and follow my dreams of changing careers and working in education.? WIN-WIN!!!!! The decision to leave was hard to make though, after all I held our families insurance and the options on the Marketplace did not look that good compared to what we had.? I remember constantly thinking, how it this affordable?? It wasn?t just the monthly costs, but the co-pays were outrageous or you paid for your visits up front, up to $XX amount.? I was so worried that if my Strep Throat prone child needed a tonsillectomy, we?d go broke.? So, for us we chose to use COBRA, the monthly costs were about the same but the deductibles we could manage.? I had NO IDEA that I would be the one with the need - less than 3 months later!!!

So, I am grateful to GOD, he guided and I listened!? But I keep recalling a part of Donna?s book, where she says its not fair that anyone should not get treatment because of not having insurance or being able to cover the costs.? I couldn?t agree more!? I love that this Foundation is helping women who are in need and that it is, I?m sure lifting the stress off those who are used to pushing themselves to provide for their families.? We want to help!

In honor of it being Breast Cancer Awareness month, on Monday, October 24th we,TAPS Bar & Grill on CR210 in Saint Johns, Florida, had a fundraising event and raised $1500 and some additiional private donates for the Donna Foundation.?We are a small community based restaurant and so many have asked what they can do to help us and support us.? I?ve even been messaged from friends of friends who have fought this fight just offering to be a part of my journey as I need it.? Had I not read ?The Good Fight?, I would have never in a million years believed that a network of strangers with one commonality was as important as it is turning out to be for me.

Thank you for what you are doing!? God Bless.???????
